Southwick residents warned of phone scam impersonating police

SOUTHWICK — The Southwick Police Department is alerting the public to a phone scam where the perpetrators are posing as officers and using the department’s business line number to solicit personal information.

Earlier today, a local resident reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be an officer with the Southwick Police Department.

The caller used the department’s legitimate business number, 413-569-5348, and communicated in the resident’s native language.

During the call, the impersonator requested personal details, including the resident’s social security number.

Authorities are emphasizing that this is a scam and are urging residents not to provide any personal information over the phone.

The Southwick Police Department does not make unsolicited calls to ask for social security numbers or other sensitive personal data.

Residents who receive suspicious calls are advised to hang up immediately and report the incident to the Southwick Police Department.

Police are investigating the situation and are working to prevent further occurrences of this fraudulent activity.
