Multiple arrests overnight on Rhode Island highways

PAWTUCKET — A series of targeted motor vehicle stops led to the arrest of four individuals by Rhode Island State Troopers from the Lincoln Woods Barracks early this morning for various charges, including bench warrants and violation of a protection order.

At 12:26 a.m., Troopers apprehended 21-year-old Wanerly Espinal of Providence on multiple bench warrants, including one for failure to appear at a pre-trial conference on a charge of resisting arrest, another for missing a review on a drug possession charge, and a third for skipping a hearing on a simple assault charge.

The arrest occurred on Route 95 in Pawtucket.

Espinal was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and then transferred to the Adult Correctional Institution – Women’s Intake Center.

In a separate incident on Route 95, at 1:12 a.m., Jovany Chase, 19, of Pawtucket, was arrested for violating a protection order.

Following processing at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, Chase was held for arraignment as a bail violator.

At the same time and location, Angel Wilcox, also 19 and from the same Pawtucket address as Chase, was arrested on a similar charge of violating a protection order.

Wilcox was processed at the State Police – Scituate Barracks and held for arraignment as a bail violator.

Later, at 1:35 a.m., 45-year-old Michael Gomes of Central Falls was arrested on Smithfield Avenue in Providence on a bench warrant for failing to appear for a pre-trial conference related to a domestic violence – simple assault charge.

Gomes was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks before being handed over to the Adult Correctional Institution – Men’s Intake Center.
