Irasburg man arrested for vehicle theft, outstanding warrants

COVENTRY — A 43-year-old man was arrested on Jan. 22 after allegedly stealing a vehicle and being found with outstanding warrants for DUI and drug possession.

Vermont State Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at a farm on Airport Road in Coventry at 6:19 p.m.

The vehicle, owned by 77-year-old Earl Simons of Brownington, was later located parked outside the Pinecrest Motel on Barton Orleans Road in Barton.

The suspect, James Poutre of Irasburg, had taken the vehicle without Simons’ consent and fled before troopers arrived.

A search ensued with additional troopers from Derby and Saint Johnsbury barracks and K9 Carbon, who located Poutre in a building on the Pinecrest property.

Poutre was taken into custody and found to have two active arrest warrants for DUI – Drug, possession of cocaine, and unlawful trespass.

He was processed at the Derby barracks and lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility for lack of $300 bail.

Poutre is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23 at 12:30 p.m. to answer to the charges, including Operating without Owners Consent related to the vehicle theft incident.
