ELLSWORTH — A fire that broke out Wednesday morning at Meadow View Apartments has left one man with life-threatening injuries and at least two others displaced.
The blaze was reported at 8:26 a.m. at 50 Meadow View Lane.
Ellsworth Fire Department crews arrived to find a working fire in a multi-unit apartment building.
Firefighters, with the aid of several neighboring departments, managed to contain the fire quickly.
A male victim was initially taken to Northern Light Hospital in Ellsworth for severe burns before being transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland for further treatment.
Following the suppression of the fire, the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate the cause.
The investigation revealed that the fire started due to careless disposal of smoking materials.
Significant damage was sustained in the room of origin and the building’s roof system, though authorities have deemed the structure salvageable.
The FMO’s Inspections Division assisted in the investigation.
Fire departments from Trenton, Lamoine, Mariaville, Orland, Southwest Harbor, and MDI provided mutual aid during the incident.
