WEST HAVEN — A robbery at a Shell gas station on Platt Ave ended with the arrest of a suspect following a tense confrontation with police on Jan. 21.

At around 3:15 p.m., a white male entered the gas station and demanded cash from the clerk.

The suspect, later identified as Joseph Marzano, born March 13, 1993, of West Haven, allegedly followed the clerk to the cash register and insisted on the money, leading the clerk to believe Marzano might have been armed.

Fearing for his safety, the clerk complied and handed over the cash.

Marzano then fled the scene on Platt Ave with an undisclosed amount of money.

The clerk was not injured during the incident.

West Haven Police Department officers, arriving shortly after the robbery, spotted a man matching the description of the suspect walking along Platt Ave.

Police confronted Marzano, and after a brief struggle, he was detained.

Officers discovered a large sum of cash in Marzano’s jacket and pants pockets.

Marzano has been charged with third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny.

He was held on bond and is scheduled to make his court appearance at Milford Superior Court on Jan. 22.
