Oxford officer breaks into burning car, no one injured

OXFORD — A quick response from an Oxford Police Department officer prevented potential injuries today when a car caught fire on Route 395.

The dispatch center received multiple 911 calls around 1:30 p.m. about a vehicle engulfed in flames.

Officer Ausmus was first to arrive at the scene, where he found the car completely ablaze.

Concerned that someone might be trapped inside the locked vehicle, Ausmus used his baton to smash a window.

Upon gaining access, he confirmed that no one was inside the car.

Thanks to Officer Ausmus’s swift actions, there were no injuries reported in connection with the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
