CHICOPEE — A home invasion on Trilby Ave. late Friday night ended with an exchange of gunfire, leaving one man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Chicopee Police Department.
Authorities were alerted to the incident after a 911 call was made by a woman at around 9:21 p.m. to WESTCOMM Regional Dispatch, reporting that her son had been shot by an intruder in their apartment.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, detectives discovered that the victim had managed to return fire, striking his assailant.
The Chicopee Police confirmed that the victim held a valid license to carry a firearm, which was legally registered.
Investigators believe the assault was a targeted attack and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the general public.
The Chicopee Police Department is actively investigating the case with support from the Massachusetts State Police.
