SPRINGFIELD — A police officer was hit by a vehicle while managing traffic Saturday, leading to the arrest of 30-year-old Taysia Williamson on multiple charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. outside the MassMutual Center, where the Springfield Police Officer was directing both pedestrian and motor traffic at the intersection of State Street and Main Street.

According to authorities, Williamson was in a vehicle halted at a red light on State Street when the officer advised her that a left turn onto Main Street was not permitted from her lane.

Ignoring the officer’s instructions and the posted street signs, Williamson allegedly turned onto Main Street, striking the officer who then landed on the hood of her car.

She is then accused of fleeing the scene.

Later in the evening, around 6:45 p.m., officers located Williamson on the 100 block of Broadway Street in Chicopee and took her into custody.

The officer involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.

Williamson, a Chicopee resident, faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop for police.
