KILLINGTON — A local man was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment following a road-rage incident involving a firearm on Jan. 21.
At about 12:53 p.m., Killington Police were alerted by a motorist claiming another driver had brandished a gun at him.
The reporting motorist was simultaneously on the phone with VT 911, providing updates that helped police locate the suspect’s vehicle.
Two minutes later, officers stopped the vehicle on US Route 4 on the Killington Flats.
The driver, identified as 71-year-old Jeffrey Grindlay of Reading, initially denied any involvement with a gun.
However, he did acknowledge having a firearm in the car, which he allowed police to seize.
Upon searching the car, officers found the loaded weapon behind the driver’s seat.
Further conversation with the complainant revealed a detailed description of the firearm and the circumstances leading to the incident.
The complainant alleged that Grindlay had brake-checked him while overtaking other vehicles on the Killington Pass, prompting a road-rage encounter.
Confronted with this account, Grindlay admitted to waving the gun at the other motorist but insisted he did not point it at anyone.
Following his confession, Grindlay was taken into custody without incident and processed at the Killington Police Department.
Grindlay was later released with a citation to appear in court.
