Fort Fairfield police warn of persistent scammers seeking personal info

FORT FAIRFIELD — In an effort to protect residents from becoming victims of fraud, the Fort Fairfield Police Department issued a reminder Tuesday about the prevalence of scammers attempting to swindle personal and bank account information.

Authorities emphasized that the IRS does not solicit private details through such means.

They urged community members to be skeptical of communications that promise unrealistic outcomes or request sensitive information.

“If it looks too good to be true, it most likely is,” the police warned.

The department is urging anyone with doubts about the legitimacy of a message or request to contact them for verification.

They stress the importance of vigilance and the protection of personal information, especially when conducting transactions online.
