CASCO — A high-speed pursuit by Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies ended in a crash and the arrest of two men on Jan. 17.
Deputies engaged in a traffic enforcement operation on Roosevelt Trail near Club Sebago Way around 7:38 p.m. when they spotted a blue Mazda 3 driving erratically.
Attempts to stop the vehicle failed as the driver, later identified as 19-year-old Abdiaziz Ibrahim of Portland, accelerated away, reaching speeds over 90 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The chase continued onto Brown Avenue and eventually Quaker Ridge Road before deputies terminated their pursuit for safety reasons.
Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was found crashed at the intersection of Graffam Road, with Ibrahim and passenger, 21-year-old Rodrigue Mucyo of Westbrook, fleeing on foot into nearby woods.
K9 units from both Cumberland and Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Offices were dispatched, resulting in the apprehension of both suspects.
A firearm, also reported stolen from Saco, was recovered during the search.
Ibrahim faces multiple charges including eluding an officer, reckless conduct, and operating without a license.
Mucyo was charged with receiving stolen property and had two active warrants for his arrest.
Both suspects were medically cleared at Maine Medical Center before being jailed at Cumberland County Jail.
The incident, which left Quaker Ridge Road open to local traffic, also involved assistance from South Portland Police Department.
