BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s Drug Control Unit arrested a man on drug trafficking charges Monday evening in Brighton, following an investigation that led to the discovery of various illegal substances and a knife.

At about 7:05 p.m., officers were surveilling the area of 19 Farrington Street when they observed two men engaging in suspicious activity, including one man handing a cellphone to another near a building’s entryway.

The men were seen entering and exiting a parked vehicle multiple times before attempting to drive away.

Police initiated a traffic stop on Linden Street after noticing a defective backup light on the vehicle.

During the interaction with the suspects, the driver, identified as 27-year-old Jaron Manon of Lynn, refused to comply with officers’ orders to keep his hands visible, resulting in a struggle as he was removed from the vehicle.

A search of Manon led to the recovery of a large bag of cocaine.

Meanwhile, officers disarmed a rear passenger who was attempting to reach for a knife and secured a second passenger, a female, from whom they seized a bag of mushrooms, Adderall, and multiple glass pipes.

Further investigation revealed prescription pill bottles containing various pills not prescribed to the vehicle owner.

Manon faces charges including trafficking of Class B drugs and operating after suspension.

He is set to be arraigned at Brighton District Court.

The other two individuals were given court summonses on drug possession charges.
