BOSTON — Two Dorchester men were arrested on drug and firearm charges Saturday morning after a Boston Police Department raid that also resulted in an officer being bitten by a pit bull.

At about 7:15 a.m., officers from the E-13 (Jamaica Plain), B-3 (Mattapan), and Citywide Drug Control Units carried out a search warrant at 16 Wildwood Street, following surveillance operations.

Edwin German, 26, and Alberis Cruz, 33, were taken into custody after the raid, police said.

The incident began when officers spotted German leaving the targeted residence and initiated a traffic stop around 6:56 a.m. at the intersection of Theodore Street and Morton Street.

German was informed of the four search warrants related to him and his residence.

Despite being told the pit bull inside was friendly, one officer was attacked and bitten by the animal upon entering the home to execute the warrant.

The officer was able to fend off the dog and was assisted outside, where a tourniquet was applied.

Boston EMS responded, and the officer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Animal Control was called to the residence to safely remove the dog.

During the raid, police detained three additional individuals and seized a trafficking amount of cocaine, scales, baggies, cutting agents, a 9mm ghost gun with a loaded magazine, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Both German and Cruz are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

German faces charges of trafficking Class B drugs (cocaine), while Cruz is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
