New London fugitive nabbed with firearm near train station

NEW LONDON — New London Police Vice & Narcotics Investigators arrested a wanted fugitive Friday night who was found in possession of a firearm.

Jovanny Spangler, 20, was apprehended around 9:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 27 Water St. on an active felony warrant for first-degree escape.

During the arrest, Spangler was found with a silver .22 caliber revolver.

The operation was part of a police effort to address quality of life issues in the area.

Amtrak Police played a crucial role in ensuring public safety by securing the premises and delaying train arrivals during the incident.

Spangler, a resident of Meriden, faces charges of first-degree escape and criminal possession of a firearm.

Following his arrest, he was placed under the supervision of the Department of Corrections’ Division of Parole.

A $100,000 cash-surety bond has been set for the on-site charges.

The New London Police Department reminds the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
