WATERBURY — Officers from the Waterbury Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit arrested a suspect after a vehicle stop on Jan. 15 led to the discovery of a significant quantity of narcotics and damage to two police cruisers.
During a patrol near 867 Baldwin Street, officers noticed an occupied vehicle that was running with several visible motor vehicle violations.
The situation escalated when the driver, in an attempt to evade the police, accelerated and reversed into two police cruisers.
The driver, identified as Vincent Simmons, 26, of Waterbury, CT, was removed from the vehicle by officers.
A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of 352 glassine bags of fentanyl and 104 grams of cocaine, both prepared for sale.
Simmons faces charges including reckless driving, interfering with an officer, third-degree criminal mischief, disobeying the signal of an officer, various motor vehicle-related charges, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and possession of half an ounce or more of cocaine in free base form.
