Lebanon fire claims one life, injures another

LEBANON — A fatal fire that engulfed a single-family home on Smith Rd. on Jan. 17 has resulted in one death and left another occupant injured, according to officials.

The Lebanon Fire Department responded to the blaze around noon and sought the assistance of the Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) to investigate the catastrophic incident.

The structure was reported to be completely destroyed by the fire.

While one resident was able to escape and was transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, fire investigators discovered the remains of an adult male within the debris.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, pending an autopsy by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by authorities.
