EAST MILLINOCKET — Shortly before 11 p.m. on Thursday, the East Millinocket Police Department, alongside Medway and East Millinocket Fire Departments, responded to reports of a potential motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Medway Rd and Grindstone Rd.

Upon arrival, officers discovered signs of a collision but initially could not find the vehicle involved.

A search led to the discovery of a vehicle several hundred feet into the woods, down an embankment, and indications suggest the vehicle was airborne for over 100 feet before crashing.

A single male occupant was found trapped inside the vehicle with serious injuries.

Fire crews employed the jaws of life to free the individual, after which EMS transported him to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

The patient was later transferred to Lifeflight of Maine for further treatment.

Authorities are investigating the crash, with preliminary evidence pointing toward speed and alcohol as contributing factors.

The East Millinocket Police Department has not released further details at this time as the investigation continues.
