Waterbury, CT police arrest two, seize drugs and stolen firearm

WATERBURY — Officers from the Waterbury Police Department Patrol Division made a significant arrest on Jan. 16, following proactive patrols near Watertown Avenue.

During their patrol, officers noticed a suspicious 2010 Acura TL idling in the Citgo Gas Station parking lot at 1387 Watertown Avenue.

The car had several motor vehicle violations, including heavily tinted windows that hindered visibility inside the vehicle.

Upon investigation, police discovered misuse of marker plates on the vehicle.

The driver, Tarell Thomas, 36, and a 17-year-old passenger were identified.

Items seized from the vehicle included $1800 in U.S currency, various quantities of heroin and crack cocaine, and a loaded Glock 9MM firearm with an extended magazine, which was reported as stolen.

Thomas faces multiple charges, including interfering with police, risk of injury to a minor, and conspiracy related to the sale of narcotics.

The juvenile passenger has been charged with theft of a firearm, interfering with police, weapons in a motor vehicle, illegal sale/transfer of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a permit, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, and two counts each of possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of narcotics with intent to sell within a school zone.
