BURLINGTON — Two Vermont residents were arrested Thursday evening by the Vermont Drug Task Force in cooperation with state and local police, authorities said.

Jesse Davis, 29, of Essex, and Tess Adams, 30, of Burlington, were taken into custody on Interstate 89 North at mile marker 75 for cocaine sale, cocaine possession, and fentanyl trafficking.

The arrests of Davis and Adams followed an extensive investigation into the distribution of fentanyl and cocaine base in the Chittenden and Washington County areas.

Controlled purchases of cocaine were part of the operation that led to the seizure of significant amounts of both drugs.

Following their arrest, Davis was held at North Western Correctional Center and Adams at Chittenden Regional Correctional Center, each on $20,000 bail.

They are scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County court on Jan. 17.
