NORTH HAVEN — A 42-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested and charged with larceny and drug-related offenses after police responded to a theft at Big Lots on Universal Drive yesterday at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Shaun Costello was taken into custody following a swift investigation by North Haven Police Department.
While patrol officers were heading to the store, witnesses provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Nearby detectives spotted a vehicle matching the description and conducted a stop as it tried to enter I-91 South.
Surveillance footage from Big Lots confirmed the suspect, who was a passenger in the stopped vehicle, had been involved in the larceny.
Items believed to be stolen from Big Lots were discovered in a shopping cart near the location where the suspect’s vehicle had initially fled.
Costello faces charges for Larceny in the sixth degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
He also had two violation of probation warrants: one with a $125,000 bond from a case in Stamford, and another stemming from a 2020 robbery at a Home Depot in North Haven, where an employee was threatened with a syringe.
Held on a $150,000 combined court-set bond, Costello was transported to Meriden Superior Court this morning to face his charges.
