NEW BEDFORD — Two men were arrested Monday after a raid at a North End apartment led to the seizure of substantial quantities of drugs and firearms, according to authorities.

Detectives wrapped up their investigation into a fentanyl distribution operation at 192 Belleville Road, with a search warrant targeting Alexander Sears, 39, and Jose Lacen, 25.

The search yielded 141.6 grams of cocaine, 4.9 grams of fentanyl, and two loaded 9mm pistols — a Masterpiece Arms and a Taurus — among other items related to drug trafficking.

In addition to the narcotics and firearms, detectives confiscated a digital scale, calibration weight, narcotics packaging, and $1,701 in cash.

The evidence has been seized due to its connection to the alleged criminal activities.

Lacen faces charges of trafficking cocaine in excess of 100 grams, unlawful possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Sears has been charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug.

The operation was conducted with Det. Nathan Almeida leading the arrest.
