WATERBURY — Police seized multiple firearms and drugs during a targeted operation by the Waterbury Police Department’s Gang Task Force and partnering agencies on Jan. 14.

Two 18-year-old Waterbury residents, Roberto Solis and Joshua Rosas, were arrested following a traffic stop and subsequent search of a residence, authorities said.

Detectives observed Solis driving a Honda CRV with Rosas as a passenger and witnessed them engaging in narcotics transactions, according to police.

A motor vehicle stop near 77 Stairview Avenue led to the seizure of marijuana packaged for sale and a loaded Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm firearm.

A search warrant executed at 77 Central Avenue resulted in the seizure of two additional loaded firearms: a Colt .38 Special revolver and a Glock 19 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.

Police noted that two minor children were present in areas where the firearms were accessible.

Solis faces charges including theft of a firearm, operating a drug factory, weapons in a motor vehicle, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Rosas was charged with similar offenses, as well as two counts of risk of injury to a minor, two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.

The operation involved collaboration between the Waterbury Police Department’s Gang Task Force, the State Police’s Violent Crimes Task Force, the Vice and Intelligence Unit, and the Auto Theft Task Force.

Waterbury police said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to address shots fired incidents and firearm-related crimes in the city and surrounding communities.
