Shed fire in Russell contained

RUSSELL — A fire that engulfed a wooden shed on South Quarter Road was successfully contained and extinguished Tuesday morning, preventing damage to a nearby house.

The Russell-Montgomery Police Department and Russell Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 11:38 a.m. after receiving reports of a shed on fire.

Police officers arrived first, finding the structure fully engulfed in flames.

Officers, the homeowner, and passersby worked to contain the fire until firefighters arrived.

The Russell Fire Department, assisted by mutual aid from the Huntington Fire Department, Hilltown Community Ambulance Association, Chester Fire Department, and Massachusetts State Police, quickly responded to the scene.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze without it spreading to the adjacent house.

No injuries were reported.

Northampton Control Dispatch was credited for maintaining effective communication throughout the incident.

The cause of the fire and extent of damage to the shed were not immediately available.
