EAST BRIDGEWATER — A 38-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on charges of child enticement and distributing obscene matter to a minor, police said.

Evanilson Gomes of East Bridgewater faces charges of enticement of a child under 16, distributing obscene matter to a minor and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, according to East Bridgewater Police Chief Michael Jenkins.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation that began Oct. 31 at 10:22 a.m., when School Resource Officer Tallitha Connor started looking into lewd messages sent via Snapchat to a juvenile female student.

Through a search warrant for the Snapchat account, Connor identified Gomes as the suspect.

Police say Gomes communicated with the juvenile for several days, allegedly sending unsolicited lewd images and videos multiple times, even after learning her age.

After obtaining an arrest warrant Wednesday, detectives conducting surveillance on North Bedford Street witnessed Gomes pulling into a driveway at 3:15 p.m. and arrested him without incident.

Police also determined he was driving with a suspended license.

Gomes’ phone was seized as evidence.

He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in Brockton District Court.
