CUMBERLAND — A 23-year-old Cranston man was arrested Monday in connection with an armed robbery in Attleboro, Massachusetts, following a series of events that began with a police camera alert and ended in a car crash.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Jan. 15, Cumberland Police’s Flock camera system alerted officers to two vehicles entering the town on Broad Street that were wanted by other jurisdictions.
While attempting to stop one vehicle, it fled into Central Falls, prompting officers to terminate the pursuit at the town border.
As police searched for the second vehicle, a car crash was reported on Lusitana Avenue.
The driver fled the scene on foot.
Attleboro Police then informed Cumberland officers that the crashed vehicle matched the description of one involved in a recent armed robbery in their city.
Cumberland police apprehended the suspect, a 23-year-old male from Cranston, in a nearby neighborhood without incident.
He is currently at a local hospital due to an unrelated medical condition.
No injuries were reported from the crash or arrest.
The suspect’s name and specific charges are being withheld as the investigation is ongoing.
Cumberland Police Chief Matthew J. Benson praised the efforts of his officers and the collaboration with Attleboro Police.
He also noted the effectiveness of the recently deployed Flock camera system in aiding the arrest.
Investigators are working to determine if there is any connection between the three vehicles involved in the initial alert and subsequent events.
