Boston police arrest suspect with crack cocaine

BOSTON — Boston police arrested a 22-year-old man Wednesday on drug trafficking charges after finding 22 grams of crack cocaine in his possession.

Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force apprehended Jashaun Benalfew of Roxbury around 2 p.m. while on patrol near Old Colony Avenue.

Officers recognized Benalfew as having two active warrants and approached him as he walked with another individual on Logan Way.

During a search following the arrest, police discovered a large plastic bag containing crack cocaine in Benalfew’s left jacket pocket.

Officers also found a bag of fentanyl and $947 in cash.

Benalfew faces charges of cocaine trafficking and possession of a Class A substance.

His existing warrants were for unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance.

The second individual with Benalfew was released at the scene.

Benalfew is scheduled for arraignment in South Boston District Court.
