LEWISTON — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle this afternoon at the intersection of Highland Spring Rd. and Sabattus St., resulting in serious injuries.

At 1:50 p.m., Lewiston Police responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident.

Upon arrival, they discovered that a local auto mechanic had used a car jack to lift the vehicle off the pedestrian, identified as 45-year-old Ronnie Clark, who was trapped beneath.

Clark was conscious and alert when freed and was subsequently transported to Central Maine Medical Center, where he remains in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Investigations into the incident revealed that Clark had allegedly stolen several bottles of liquor from the nearby Hannaford Supermarket just moments before the accident.

He was confronted by loss prevention in the parking lot and fled, only to be struck by a 2003 Mazda CX30 driven by Kenneth Floyd, of Greene, as he crossed Highland Spring Rd.

Police later issued a summons to Clark at the hospital for Theft by Unauthorized Taking after he was found with a bottle of “Skull” vodka, which was determined to be part of the stolen goods from Hannaford.
