Springfield police arrest man with 13 outstanding warrants for lottery ticket thefts

SPRINGFIELD — A 30-year-old man wanted for a series of lottery ticket thefts and other charges was arrested Tuesday morning after a coordinated effort by local and federal law enforcement.

Treanthony Williams was taken into custody around 7:15 a.m. by the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, and U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Springfield Police Detectives, led by Captain Trent Duda, linked Williams to various incidents over the past year, which included the theft of lottery tickets from multiple convenience stores.

After obtaining a warrant for his arrest, authorities located Williams on the 0-100 block of Sumner Terrace.

During the arrest, Williams attempted to flee through a second-floor bedroom window but was apprehended by officers who pulled him back inside.

Williams faces multiple charges across several arrest warrants, including attempted larceny, unarmed assault to rob, assault and battery, wanton destruction of property, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, larceny from a building, conspiracy, unarmed robbery, shoplifting by concealing merchandise, furnishing false identification information to law enforcement, and larceny from a person.

Many of the charges relate to incidents of larceny under $1,200.

The arrest culminates a year-long investigation into thefts that have affected businesses across Springfield.

Williams is currently being held pending his arraignment in district court.
