NORFOLK — Norfolk Police are investigating a series of fraudulent activities reported within the last 24 hours involving credit card misuse and package thefts in the area.
The first incident involved a local resident who notified police that several items had been fraudulently purchased using their credit card and were delivered to their home.
It is believed that the individual or individuals responsible intended to collect the items before they were intercepted or returned by the homeowner.
In a separate but possibly related case, another resident reported to the Norfolk Police that they had received three items, including two Apple products, which were ordered and delivered to their home.
Within 30 minutes of delivery, the resident was approached by three different Door Dash drivers, each attempting to pick up the packages to deliver them to another location.
The Door Dash drivers appeared to be following delivery instructions unknowingly provided by the person or persons committing the theft.
Norfolk Police are advising residents to take several precautions to protect their deliveries and personal information:
– Monitor package tracking information closely.
– Consider installing surveillance cameras around the home.
– Have packages delivered to secure pick-up locations when possible.
– Request that deliveries require a signature upon receipt.
The Norfolk Police urge the community to report any suspicious activities or similar incidents to assist in the ongoing investigations.
