Needham police report string of fraud incidents, arrests made

NEEDHAM — A series of fraud incidents and criminal activities have been reported in Needham over the past week, according to the Needham Police Department.

On Dec. 30, at around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a bank on Chestnut Street for a check fraud case, which is currently under investigation.

That same day, a resident of Elder Road reported being a victim of identity fraud at police headquarters at 1:24 p.m. and was given advice on how to proceed.

Disturbances and fraud continued on New Year’s Eve when a Great Plain Avenue business reported an employee who was asked to leave the premises at about 3:49 p.m., and officers responded to a Hunnewell Street residence for a credit card fraud report at 4:23 p.m.

Later that evening, at 7:12 p.m., officers addressed a disturbance on Chestnut Street involving a 50-year-old Lakeville resident who is now facing disorderly conduct charges.

A 25-year-old Foxboro man will be summoned to court for multiple traffic violations after attempting to evade a stop sign at Hillside and West and fleeing from police at around 8:13 p.m. the same night.

The new year brought additional reports of vandalism, property damage, and hit-and-run incidents.

On Jan. 1, officers documented a past vandalism on Reservoir Street at 10:07 p.m. and responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash on Border Road at 12:03 p.m., where a 23-year-old Marlborough man was cited for leaving the scene.

On Jan. 2, a 32-year-old Randolph man was stopped for expired registration and will be summoned for operating with a suspended license.

Officers also took reports of bank fraud and suspicious communications throughout the day.

Assisting detectives on Jan. 3, officers arrested a 48-year-old Georgia woman and a 43-year-old Florida man at a B Street address at around 6:00 p.m. on criminal warrants.

The same day, a Hawthorne Ave resident reported a dog bite incident, and a Central Ave disturbance at 7:54 a.m. led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man on multiple charges, including failing to register as a sex offender and possession of methamphetamine.

Reports of a stolen mailbox, suspicious texts, and a gift card scam were also taken on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, while officers advised a High St resident over a landlord-tenant dispute on Jan. 5 around 1:00 p.m.

The Needham Police Department continues to investigate these incidents and encourages the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
