RICHMOND — A routine traffic stop for a defective headlight on I-295 near Exit 43 led to the arrest of two men on charges of illegal drug trafficking, the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.
At 10:08 p.m. on Dec. 28, Deputy Zac Kindelan, who was working an Impaired Driving detail, pulled over a vehicle with two male occupants.
The driver, later identified as Brian M. McNeil, 52, of Eddington, was found to be operating without a license.
The passenger, Harlin C. Guerrero, 22, a transient, had permitted McNeil to drive his vehicle.
During the investigation, Deputy Kindelan, suspecting further illegal activity, called for backup.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 107.7 grams of Fentanyl, 51 grams of cocaine base, and 100 Oxycontin pills.
Both McNeil and Guerrero were arrested and charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs, Class B.
They were taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
McNeil’s bail was set at $5,000 cash, with a court date scheduled for March 6, while Guerrero’s bail was set at $15,000 cash, with a court date on March 8.
Additionally, Guerrero is being held on a detainer from Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Deputy Kindelan and Deputy Steve Thibeault conducted the arrests, with assistance from the Maine State Police and Maine Drug Enforcement Administration.
