NEWPORT — An inmate at Northern State Correctional Facility has been cited for assaulting two correctional officers by spitting on them, Vermont State Police reported.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 when John Duprey, 30, allegedly spat at Correctional Officers Tyler Wachtel, 31, and Tyler Dagesse, 19, as they attempted to remove him from his cell.
Duprey, who is from Newport and is currently incarcerated at the facility, reportedly refused to comply with verbal orders and resisted when officers tried to restrain him.
Vermont State Police investigators found that during the incident, Duprey projected saliva at the officers involved in the cell extraction.
Following the altercation, Duprey was cited on Nov. 27 at the Northern State Correctional Facility.
Duprey is scheduled for arraignment at the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Newport at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 25.
He faces charges of assault on a correctional officer with bodily fluids, with two counts pertaining to the assault of officers Wachtel and Dagesse.
