BOSTON — Boston police arrested a 50-year-old Roxbury man on firearm charges after a traffic stop late Friday night.

At about 9:30 p.m., on Dec. 27, officers assigned to District B-2 were patrolling around Blue Hill Avenue when they spotted a vehicle with excessive window tint heading toward Moreland Street.

When the officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Magazine Street and continued driving before finally stopping at Norfolk Avenue and Gerard Street.

Upon making contact with the driver, identified as David Jones, officers discovered he did not have an active driver’s license.

After Jones was asked to exit the vehicle, a search led to the recovery of a Springfield Armory XD-40 handgun with ten rounds in the magazine.

Jones resisted arrest but was eventually handcuffed with assistance from additional responding officers.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm second offense, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime, resisting arrest, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Jones is expected to face these charges at his arraignment in Roxbury District Court.
