MERIDEN — Police arrested a man Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman on the Meriden Green in July.
Trevor Smith, 42, was taken into custody without incident by Meriden police with assistance from the U.S.
Marshals Fugitive Task Force and West Haven Police Department K9 unit, authorities said.
Smith faces charges of murder, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm in the July 22 death of Beth Ndwiga.
He is being held on $3 million bond.
Officers responded to multiple 911 calls about shots fired at the green at 10:03 p.m. on July 22.
They found Ndwiga suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
She later died from her injuries.
Detective Giannakopoulos led a months-long investigation that resulted in an arrest warrant for Smith, police said.
As a convicted felon, Smith is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Smith is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Meriden Superior Court.
He also has an outstanding warrant from New Haven that will be served at a later date, according to police.
