OSSIPEE — Authorities responded to a tragic scene early Wednesday morning after a truck was discovered overturned and submerged in a river off Potter Road in Eaton.
At around 8:30 a.m., deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Conway Police Department, were dispatched to the reported accident.
The investigation, aided by the Center Conway Fire Department, revealed that the vehicle was occupied and both occupants were deceased at the time of recovery.
The truck, which was traveling southbound near the Conway/Eaton town line, appeared to have left the roadway at a low rate of speed for an unknown reason.
After becoming submerged, the doors were rendered inoperable, trapping the occupants inside due to mud and debris at the bottom of the river.
Multiple agencies, including the Madison Police Department, Conway Fire Department, North Conway Fire Department, Conway Area Swift Water Rescue Team, and Action Ambulance, supported the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in the recovery efforts.
The identities of the deceased are withheld pending the notification of their next of kin.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information regarding the accident to contact Sgt. Chris Lamb at 603-539-2284.
