MANCHESTER — A 24-year-old woman faces murder charges in the shooting death of a Manchester man, officials said Thursday.

Alicia Castagnino was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Brennan Pelio, 27, according to Attorney General John M. Formella and Manchester Police Chief Peter A. Marr.

Police responded to a suspicious death call at 470 Silver Street around 10 p.m. on Dec. 10, where they found Pelio dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

An autopsy conducted by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg determined Pelio died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Castagnino is accused of knowingly causing Pelio’s death by shooting him in the head with a firearm.

She faces an alternative charge of second-degree murder for recklessly causing his death under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to human life.

An arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at the 9th Circuit – District Division – Manchester.

The charges against Castagnino are accusations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
