TOWNSHEND — A West Townshend woman was arrested on multiple charges including DUI resulting in serious bodily injury following a vehicle rollover that left a Jamaica man critically injured, Vermont State Police reported.
The incident occurred on Sept. 12 at around 6:31 p.m. on Vermont Route 30 in Townshend.
Police said Jamee C. Shields, 26, was driving a 2009 GMC Sierra when she struck pedestrian Shane M. Whittaker, 24. Upon arrival, officers found Whittaker with serious injuries.
He was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and is currently listed in critical condition.
Investigation at the scene revealed Shields appeared impaired and she was taken into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Additionally, Shields was charged with grossly negligent operation and reckless endangerment after discovering her child was in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Shields was processed at the Westminster State Police Barracks and released with a criminal citation.
She is scheduled to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on Jan. 21 at 8:30 a.m. to respond to the charges.
