Nashua man faces federal charges for robbery, transporting stolen vehicles and cash

NASHUA — A local man was indicted on multiple charges, including Hobbs Act Robbery and interstate transportation of stolen vehicles and money, according to U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young.

Barry English, 37, is facing one count of Hobbs Act Robbery, two counts of Interstate Transportation of a Stolen Vehicle, and one count of Interstate Transportation of Stolen Money following his arrest on June 24.

He appeared in federal court today and has been detained.

The indictment alleges that on May 23, English drove a stolen Honda Fit from Massachusetts to New Hampshire.

On June 23, he is accused of robbing a Cumberland Farms store in Nashua.

The subsequent day, he allegedly drove a stolen BMW and transported over $5000 in stolen cash from Vermont to New Hampshire.

If convicted, English could face up to 20 years in prison for the robbery charge and up to 10 years for each of the transportation charges.

Each count also carries the possibility of 3 years of supervised release and fines up to $250,000.

Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge, considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and related statutes.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Nashua Police Department, with assistance from the Manchester Police Department, New Hampshire State Police, Lowell Police Department in Massachusetts, and the Newport Police Department in Vermont.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany Scanlon is prosecuting the case.
