EAST BRIDGEWATER — A Brockton man was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and several other offenses after crashing his car in an East Bridgewater neighborhood on Tuesday night, police said.
Eric Maguire, 47, faces charges including operating under the influence of liquor, marked lanes violation, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, speeding, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to East Bridgewater Police Chief Michael Jenkins.
Police were called to Pleasant Street around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 after Maguire’s white SUV struck a tree and a parked vehicle, leaving a trail of debris and tire marks across multiple lawns.
Upon arrival, officers found the severely damaged SUV in the front yard of a house and detected a strong odor of alcohol while speaking to Maguire, who was still inside the vehicle.
A search of the SUV revealed a half-full bottle of liquor and spilled liquid from a plastic cup.
Maguire was taken to a nearby hospital for assessment by the East Bridgewater Fire Department and was later booked at the East Bridgewater Police Department after being released from the hospital early Wednesday morning.
Investigators determined that Maguire was driving approximately 60 mph in a 30 mph zone on Pleasant Street when he lost control of his vehicle.
He veered off the road, hitting several roadside trash bins, a parked vehicle in a driveway, a tree, and a mailbox, which snapped and struck another parked vehicle.
No other injuries were reported from the incident.
Maguire is expected to be arraigned in Brockton District Court.
