CRANSTON — A series of housebreaks has struck the Edgewood area of Cranston, with authorities currently investigating multiple incidents believed to be connected.
The Cranston Police Department, led by Chief Michael J. Winquist, reported that within the last 18 hours, four separate residences have been targeted by what seems to be the same perpetrator or group.
The break-ins occurred on Malvern Avenue, Alhambra Circle—with two homes affected—and Broad Street.
The first reported break-in happened last night around 9:30 p.m. on Malvern Avenue.
The homeowner encountered a male suspect inside the house who brandished a handgun, presumed stolen from the property, before escaping through a window.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male, wearing a gray camouflage sweatshirt and a hat, with hair visible at the sides.
Despite immediate response by patrol officers and a K-9 unit, the suspect remains at large.
The intruder had forced entry by breaking a basement window and was found to have consumed food from the kitchen.
Early this morning, at approximately 2:50 a.m., residents on Alhambra Circle confronted an intruder in their home.
The male suspect, described as medium-built, wearing gray pants and a blue puffy jacket with a hood, fled when pursued by the occupants.
Entry was made through a broken rear window, with evidence of blood at the scene suggesting the intruder may have been injured.
Another Alhambra Circle home reported a break-in, with a theft of a power tool from the garage and personal items including a debit card, clothing, and a cell phone taken from inside the residence.
The most recent incident involved a house on Broad Street, where a break-in is believed to have occurred within the last two days.
While it is unclear if anything was stolen, blood was found on a screen door, and signs of food consumption were evident.
In response to these events, the police have heightened patrols in the Edgewood area and are continuing their investigation.
Residents are advised to secure their homes and report any suspicious activity to 911 immediately.
The public is cautioned not to approach the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous.
