Teen driver killed in single-vehicle crash in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY — A 17-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, according to Vermont State Police.

Macy Piersiak of Needham, Massachusetts, was traveling south on Cold River Road near Upper Cold River Road when her vehicle, a 2019 RAM 1500, crossed the centerline and exited the roadway, striking a guardrail and then a tree head-on.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:06 a.m. under cloudy conditions with dry roads.

Piersiak, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries, resulting in the total loss of the vehicle.

No other occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders from the Shrewsbury Fire Department, Rutland City Fire Department, and Regional Ambulance Service assisted Vermont State Police at the scene.

The crash is currently under investigation.
