West Rutland crash leads to DUI arrest

RUTLAND — A collision between a box truck and a parked car on Church Street resulted in the arrest of a Fair Haven man for driving under the influence on Oct. 9.

Vermont State Police responded to the incident around 5:06 p.m. where they found a 2014 Freightliner box truck with minor front-end damage.

The truck was operated by James Rutherford, 42, who displayed signs of impairment during the investigation, according to the authorities.

The parked vehicle, a 2023 Nissan Rogue, sustained passenger-side damage.

There were no occupants in the Nissan at the time of the crash, and no injuries were reported.

Rutherford received a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court – Criminal Division.

He was taken into custody on charges of DUI.

The road conditions were dry, and the weather was clear at the time of the accident.
