Revere police warn of phone scam threatening SWAT deployment for fake warrants

1 min read

REVERE — The Revere Police Department issued a scam alert to residents on Monday, advising them of a phone scheme where fraudsters impersonate police officers and threaten legal action to extort money.

According to officials, the scam involves a caller who pretends to be from the Revere Police, claiming the victim has an outstanding warrant for skipping jury duty or committing a criminal offense.

The scammer then asserts that failure to comply will result in a SWAT team being dispatched to the victim’s residence.

Victims are being coerced into depositing money through Bitcoin or other kiosk machines to avoid the alleged repercussions.

The police department emphasizes that they never contact individuals by phone to inform them of existing arrest warrants.

Instead, they advise the community that if they receive such a call, they should immediately hang up and report the incident to the Revere Police Department’s non-emergency line at 781-284-1212.

In the event of an emergency, residents should call 9-1-1.
