MANCHESTER — A Manchester Police officer was approached by a woman at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 who reported a man had just threatened her and her boyfriend with a gun.

The couple had been sitting in their car parked at 284 Spruce Street when a man they recognized began yelling at them.

The confrontation escalated when the woman’s boyfriend stepped out of the vehicle and started arguing with the man.

During the argument, the man, later identified as 20-year-old Louis Sousa of Manchester, pulled out what appeared to be a gun and threatened violence.

The boyfriend took cover behind the car while the woman ran to seek help from a nearby officer.

The police quickly located Sousa and, after establishing probable cause, arrested him and charged him with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon.

Upon further investigation, the weapon Sousa used was found to be a BB gun.

Sousa has been placed on preventative detention pending a hearing.
