MANCHESTER — A Manchester man was arrested Monday evening after leading police on a high-speed chase that endangered the lives of many, authorities said.
At around 7:30 p.m., a Manchester police officer observed an SUV running a red light on Valley Street and speeding into the JFK Coliseum parking lot, which was crowded with vehicles and people attending athletic events.
The erratic behavior of the driver raised immediate concerns for public safety.
Despite activating their lights and sirens, police said the driver, later identified as Julio Sanchez, 43, of Manchester, failed to stop.
Sanchez continued to drive recklessly, at one point forcing another vehicle off the road, before crashing into a legally parked car on Maple Street.
After the collision, Sanchez was ordered to exit his vehicle.
He initially did not comply with the officer’s commands but eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Sanchez has been charged with Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon, Disobeying a Police Officer, and Driving After Suspension.
The Manchester Police Department is conducting a full investigation into the incident.
