BARNSTABLE — A 65-year-old Hyannis man was arrested and charged with possession and distribution of child pornography following a search warrant executed by Barnstable Police Detectives and the United States Secret Service Cyber Fraud Task Force, authorities announced Wednesday.
Joseph Madera was taken into custody on Oct. 8 after a CyberTip to the Massachusetts State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led to the discovery of at least one digital device containing child pornography images and videos at his residence.
The tip also indicated that the device was being used to distribute the illegal material.
The Barnstable Police Department, which had a task force officer assigned to the case, carried out the search warrant leading to Madera’s arrest.
He faces charges of possession of child pornography and dissemination of visual material of a child in a state of nudity.
Madera was booked at the Barnstable Police Department and arraigned at Barnstable District Court on Oct. 9.
He is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on Nov. 7.
Police have seized several digital devices from Madera’s residence, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to examine the evidence.
