NORTH BERWICK — A 4-year-old girl was fatally injured after being struck by a vehicle at her daycare in North Berwick on Thursday.
The North Berwick Police, Rescue, and Fire Departments were called to the scene at 74 Buffum Road at 4:46 p.m., where they discovered the child had been hit by a car.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts and rapid transport to Wentworth Douglas Hospital, the young girl succumbed to her injuries.
The accident occurred in the daycare’s driveway, where the girl was standing near her father’s pick-up truck.
As another parent, Krystal Meyer, also of North Berwick, was parking her 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, the child walked out from beside the pick-up and was hit by the vehicle’s left rear wheel.
Meyer underwent a standard chemical test; however, authorities have found no suspicion of impairment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that there were no violations of motor vehicle laws.
The Kennebunk Police Department has provided an accident reconstructionist to assist in the ongoing investigation.
The North Berwick Police Department expressed gratitude to all the assisting agencies that responded to the tragic incident.
