Freeport police K9 locates missing 14-year-old in woods

FREEPORT — Police units responded to a call tonight for a 14-year-old who had run away from home within the past hour.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers gathered information and called in K9 Kora to assist in locating the juvenile.

K9 Kora successfully picked up the juvenile’s trail, leading officers through a cemetery, woods, swamp, and several backyards.

After approximately half a mile, K9 Kora found the missing teenager in a wooded area.

The juvenile was safely reunited with their family.

The Freeport Police Department credited the successful recovery to the expert tracking skills of K9 Kora and the quick response of the officers involved.
