RUMFORD — An 83-year-old Rumford man was arrested on Saturday, June 8, following a grand jury’s 9-count indictment for allegedly sexually assaulting multiple children.

Raymond Hoyt was taken into custody without incident by Rumford Police for felony sex crimes involving five children under age 14, which allegedly took place between 2004 and 2014.

These incidents occurred in Rumford as well as the nearby towns of Mexico and Bethel.

Hoyt was previously arrested last summer for sex crimes victimizing one child under the age of 18.

As the investigation continued, further evidence led to the discovery of additional incidents involving four more children.

The expanded investigation, conducted in partnership with an investigator from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, culminated in the grand jury indictment.

The indictment includes one count of Gross Sexual Assault against a child under the age of 12, three counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact against a child under the age of 12, one count of Unlawful Sexual Contact against a child under the age of 14, two counts of Unlawful Sexual Touching against a child under the age of 14, and two counts from last year—one of Unlawful Sexual Touching and one of Domestic Violence Assault against a child under the age of 18—consolidated with the new charges.

Following his arrest, Hoyt was transported to the Oxford County Jail.

An Oxford County Superior Court Justice has set his bail at $75,000 cash.

If convicted of the charges, Hoyt could face up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
