NEW MILFORD — New Milford Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance to identify the driver of a vehicle involved in a dangerous encounter with law enforcement.

On May 24, shortly after midnight, the vehicle in question narrowly missed hitting two officers during a routine traffic stop on Danbury Road near Pickett District Road.

According to authorities, the suspect’s vehicle approached the parked police cruisers from behind at an excessive speed, estimated to be over 65 mph.

The cruisers were in the right-hand lane with emergency flashers on.

The driver of the suspect vehicle made a last-second swerve around the cruisers, nearly striking one where an officer had been standing moments prior.

The vehicle, potentially identified as a gray 2021 BMW M340xi with a black lip spoiler and a loud aftermarket exhaust, fled northward on Danbury Road, continuing onto Kent Road.

New Milford Police have obtained a partial Connecticut license plate number and are in the process of reviewing video footage from both the police cruisers and nearby business establishments to positively identify the driver.

This incident appears to be related to a previous event on May 5 around 5 p.m., where the same vehicle is believed to have evaded police also on Danbury Road.

Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or the driver is encouraged to contact New Milford Police Department.
